Manhattan, 7 out of 10
The Manhattan arrived cold and up, as it should, but in a Nick and Nora glass, which was an odd choice. The Luxardo cherry was skewered and the drink was well balanced and had a good bite.
Shrimp Cocktail, 8 out of 10
Four decent-size shrimp arrived with good snap. The cocktail sauce and horseradish shavings were served on top, and the sauce had a good zing. The overall presentation was a bit overkill.
Filet Mignon, 23 out of 30
The barrel-cut filet was cooked to the temperature I ordered. Tender throughout, with no fat. It had a crust, though a thin one. The seasoning was mild and barely noticeable. I ordered horseradish on the side - it came as horseradish “shavings” that looked like Parmesan and had no taste or bite. It was also noticeably small - I expected an 80z, but it seemed like more of a 6oz.
Creamed Spinach, 9 out of 10
The creamed spinach had good texture and consistency. It also had some crunch feathered in, which was terrific. Overall, very good.
New York Cheesecake, 2 out of 5
The cheesecake had no graham cracker whatsoever; rather, it had a crème brûlée crust. The cheesecake itself tasted good but was a tad “fluffy.” The berries were on the spectrum of compote and somewhat “mushy.”
The Room, 8 out of 10
This was not a classic steakhouse room, but it worked. The layout and vibe were intentional and exuded quality. The room had the right level of dimness, and the acoustics were excellent.
Service, 6 out of 10
Service overall was “fine.” There was a long wait before I could order and another long wait to clear the plates.
Extras, 3 out of 5
There was no bread and butter. French fries came instead, and that worked well. The steak knife had an excellent shape and a heavy-set blade, but unfortunately it was quite dull.
Value, 6 out of 10
The filet was $79, the Manhattan $37, the creamed spinach $17, the shrimp cocktail $32 and the cheesecake $17. That is $182 before tax for the order. It was a high price for a meal with a filet “just shy of great” and long waits to order and clear the plates.
